What Can Disney Teach Us About Relationships?

beben-eleben:

Love Looks Beyond Social Status

A lot of people say that Disney doesn’t always set the best example when it comes to relationships. And let’s be honest: that talk is justified. I’ve even said similar things on one or two occasions myself. But let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater! Disney has taught us a few positive things about love and relationships, too.

For starters, love is blind to social status! If you really care about someone, it doesn’t matter whether they come from a rich family or they can barely afford bread. Who cares what other people think? Just like it did with Aladdin and Jasmine and Lady and the Tramp, love will find a way!

Don’t Push Love Away

In ‘Hercules,’ Meg had a difficult romantic past, and it almost turned her off to the idea of love for good. What happened to her? Well, she sold her soul for the chance to be with the man she loved, and he repayed her by leaving her for another woman. Ouch.

Thankfully, though, Meg was eventually able to put the past behind her and open herself up to a new relationship with Hercules. No matter what your past looks like, don’t be afraid to open yourself up to love!

What Counts Is on the Inside

When Belle first met the Beast, she couldn’t have been less impressed — but it wasn’t only because of how he looked on the outside! He was a messed up guy on the inside, too, and she wanted no part of it.

But after his inner personality changed for the better, Belle started to fall for him, even though his beastly appearance remained the same. Real love is about who you are as people, not what you look like on the outside.
